Energy Security Discussion

Energy security has been a hot topic in the region for some time, and the energy industry, consumers, state policymakers and other stakeholders have debated various ways to address the issues.

In response to a FERC order directing ISO-NE to submit Tariff revisions reflecting improvements to its market design to better address regional fuel security concerns, ISO NE recently filed its proposed long-term market enhancements, known as “Energy Security Improvements” or “ESI,” with FERC.  ISO-NE’s ESI filing was vigorously debated and was not supported by NEPOOL’s Participants Committee, which filed an alternative proposal with FERC.

On June 10, 2020, NECA’s Fuels and Power Markets Committees are pleased to jointly present a webcast that will explore the proposed new market design and the projected impacts to grid reliability and electricity cost.  The expert panel will also analyze what this design may mean for existing generation plants and the transition to a clean energy grid.  This webcast provides a great opportunity to become informed on these perspectives and answer questions about new market products like “Day-Ahead Energy Imbalance Reserves” and “Generation Contingency Reserves.”.

Please join us as we learn and engage with other interested parties on this critical regional energy issue.
