The Northeast Energy and Commerce Association (NECA) is New England's oldest and most broadly-based, non-profit trade association serving the competitive electric power industry. Founded in 1985, NECA's mission is to facilitate an open forum among all electric power stakeholders to foster the development and maturation of competitive power markets. NECA promotes environmentally sound, reliable and cost-effective wholesale and retail markets for the production and delivery of electric power supply, as well as competing energy services and resource alternatives, including conservation, innovative demand-side and power delivery technologies, renewable energy and distributed generation.
NECA's 300 members include developers and owner/operators of competitive power projects, both regulated and merchant transmission and distribution companies, power marketers and traders, fuel and equipment suppliers, power consumers and various service providers to the power industry, including law firms, investment bankers, environmental engineering and economic consulting firms.
Through its regular series of meeting and conferences throughout the year, NECA serves as a clearinghouse of cutting-edge industry information. These events include monthly Dinner Meetings and quarterly half-day or full-day Conferences devoted to a single topic. NECA's premier event is its Annual Meeting and Golf Tournament, a 2 day conference and trade show held each spring, highlighting all of the major industry developments in the region over the past year. Previous Annual Meetings have also featured as keynote speakers such notables as FERC Commissioners and CEO's from the industry's leading companies.
From time to time, NECA has advocated positions on issues of importance to its members before legislative bodies and regulatory agencies in New England. Through its State & Regional Partner membership in the Electric Power Supply Association (EPSA), the competitive power industry's premier national trade association, NECA also participates in the development of policies at the FERC and in Congress.
